Shopping Placencia-Style & A Taco-Eating Contest Fundraiser

Shopping Placencia-Style & A Taco-Eating Contest Fundraiser

As we start to get to know people, we’ve begun to learn that there are certain things that work very differently here than most of the rest of the world. One of those things is how they shop here. In the “first world,” you simply walk into the supermarket and pick out what you want from the beautiful display of produce, meat, dairy and baked goods. Here – not so much.

Where Has the Year Gone? And A New Puppy to Love!

Where Has the Year Gone? And A New Puppy to Love!

I can not believe that it’s almost the end of August, 2022 already. It seems like we’ve just started and yet, so much has happened in the first half of this year. In April, we packed up our 2 cats and travelled to Gran Canaria where my son is living. The plan was to start a business and settle there but, alas, things didn’t pan out as planned (see my post about this here) and so we flew (with our 2 cats) to Belize. I’m either acclimatizing to the heat and humidity here, or it got a lot cooler this last week. Looking at my weather app, nothing seems to have changed in terms of humidity – it’s still between 78% and 83%, so I’m going to assume I’m getting used to it, thank goodness. Having said that, it has been cooler here the past couple of days due to rain and storms, and it’s been a nice break. My fan has been grateful for the rest. There’s been a lovely breeze on my morning walks. I’ve been waking up at sunrise lately (what’s up with that?) and have experienced some stunning sunrises over the sea. I took a different route yesterday and saw some beautiful stuff

Trying New Tropical Fruits – Breadfruit

Trying New Tropical Fruits – Breadfruit

I must confess that I’ve been sticking to the fruits and vegetables that I’m familiar with – pineapples, mangoes, guavas, papaya, avocadoes – these are the fruits of my childhood. But recently, I was introduced to some fruits that I’m not familiar with and I was pleasantly surprised. And so I decided that it was time to try all the fruits and vegetables Belize has to offer – good and not-so-good – and today I’m going to start with Breadfruit.
