Aguimes Part 2 – The Beautiful Coastal Area

Last week we visited the town of Aguimes. As with most places in Gran Canaria, Aguimes is not only a town, but also an area.

The municipality of Agüimes is divided into three perfectly defined areas: the grazing or mountain area beginning at an altitude of 300 metres above sea-level, the agricultural area situated at 275 metres above sea-level (where the Historic Quarter of Agüimes is situated) and the coastal area which heads for the fishing village of Arinaga.

How the Canarians Celebrate Canaria Day or Dia de Canarias

Dia de Canarias is celebrated on the 30th of May, 1983 when the Canary Islands officially became an Autonomous National Region of Spain and the Government of the Canary Islands Parliament sat for the first time. The day has been marked ever since by all municipal town halls, on all the 8 islands, in each of the two provinces that make up the archipelago, as the office day of celebration of all things Canarian.

Bodega Las Berrazales – Wine, Coffee and Fruit all on one Farm

As part of our search for wineries, a Google search revealed Finca la Laja – Bodega Las Berrazales. It offers so much more than just vineyards and wine tasting, they also grow coffee and fruit trees underneath the vines. Intrigued, we took a trip to the North of Gran Canaria to see what it was all about.
