A couple of weeks ago, some friends invited us for a day trip at an island called Moyo Caye. Moho Caye is an idyllic 12-acre, palm-fringed private island, located 12 miles east of Placencia. This haven is located on the fringe of the Laughing Bird Caye National Park and is surrounded by crystal blue waters, and incredible natural coral reefs. It’s the ideal spot for day trips or for the adventurous, overnight camping is available. Enjoy snorkeling, diving and swimming in some of the most beautiful waters Belize has to offer. It was a beautiful day, as most days are in Placencia

As arranged, we met at the Pointe at 9:00 am. Apart from our group of 8, there were another 22 people taking advantage of this offer of the boat ride and lunch for $100 bz each.
In true Belizean fashion, the organizers arrived an hour later and started loading all the food, ice and drinks onto the boat. While we were waiting, our conversation amongst our group turned to restrooms. One of our group has a very small bladder and, therefore, her first task when going anywhere, is to know where the bathroom is. She boasted that she knew where every bathroom in Belize was and could give us a rating on all of them! Cloud 9 Smoothies’ bathroom, in her opinion, was lovely.

But I digress. By 10:20, we were all sitting on the boat ready to go, but, alas, it was not to be. Another 10 minutes and the last tub of food arrived. by 10:30 we were heading out to open water and on our way.

A short 35 minutes and we were there. The crystal clear turquoise water took my breath away and I was reminded, once again, how lucky I am to live in this beautiful paradise.

We settled in at the far end of the island, each grabbing a lounger or a beach chair.

Several of us went swimming in the cool, clear water where we saw manta rays swimming by and, a little further out, a nurse shark.

We spent several hours hanging out there enjoying a beauty of it all. Later on we had a spectacular lunch and then dozed in the shade of the coconut trees, before taking another dip in the water and heading back home.

Another perfect day in this amazing country.
