A year ago, I wrote a post on where to find the best local food in Placencia. Since then, I’ve discovered that there are so many more excellent cooks and bakers in and around Placencia, it warranted an updated post.
Apart from the obvious locally-owned restaurants and take outs on the main road and the Sidewalk, you’ll find a variety of small eateries tucked away behind the bus stop where they make tortillas, buritos, johnny cakes, tamales and more. These small businesses are open early in the morning to around 4:00 pm. Their food is always freshly made.

Or you can buy beef pies, burritos or tamales from one of the many vendors dotted at various intervals along the main road carrying a cooler or a plastic tub.

The Village Cafe, which opened a few months ago, has quickly become one of our favourites. Here is one of those pleasant surprises you sometimes find in Placencia. They are located above one of the supermarkets along Main Street and serve breakfast, brunch and lunch. There are a variety of things to choose from on the breakfast/brunch menu, but only one lunch dish which differs every day. The food is mouthwateringly delicious and comes isnhuge portions for approximately $15 BZ. Really good value.

The Hibiscus Cafe opened on the Sidewalk a few months ago. They serve all-day breakfast, lunch, snacks and so on and are well worth a visit.

We love Mr. Q’s Barbecue. This little gem used to be Placencia Kool Spot until Mr. Q took it over a few months ago. His food is excellent and it’s a great place to have lunch and a beer while people watching.

There are so many more to choose from, each unique in their own special way. The best way to find them all is to join one of the FaceBook groups like Placencia Food & Restaurants, where who’s making what and when is advertised.
Enjoy!
