When it comes to your hard-earned vacation, a rental property can be the difference between a great holiday and a not-so-great one. For example, you might get lucky and end up booking a place that’s even nicer in real life than it is in the listing photos. On the other hand (and probably more likely to happen), upon arrival, you might discover that the host took quite a few liberties when describing the property in the listing.Continue reading “Red-Flag Words to Avoid When Booking Vacation Rentals”
Yesterday was Independence Day in Belize – September 21, 2022, – and Belize turned 41 years old. And what a party it was, the main event being a carnival parade.
If you’ve been to this tiny country you know that Belizeans are so proud of where they were born, but it really shines through on the 21st of September.Continue reading “Carnival in Placencia! Belize’s 41st Independence Day Celebrations”
Hello lovely readers. Idyllic September continues. Apart from a few rain storms at night, we’ve had picture perfect weather and every day is spent at the beach or in the pool. With 16 miles of sandy beach, it’s easy to find a spot that’s less crowded.Continue reading “More Lovely Local Food, Smoothie Bar Gets an Upgrade, and Birthday Mimosas and Wine!”
This weekend past, we had two parades back to back – and the best is yet to come! In my previous post I mentioned that September is the most anticipated month of the year and it all started on Friday evening.
Every year, our volunteer firefighters have their annual barbecue and a parade afterwards. A crowd of us gathered at Strange Brew and cheered them on as they made their way through the village.Continue reading “Two Awesome Placencia Parades – Firefighters and St. George’s Caye Day”
September is turning out to be beautiful, so far. We’re still experiencing stormy and rainy nights, but the days, for the most part, have been lovely. Very humid still, which is why we spend most afternoons at the beach.Continue reading “Beautiful September in Placencia, Belize”
Despite it being Belize’s low tourism season, September is the most anticipated month of the year. September in Belize comes alive in the form of Independence Parades, colourful carnivals and a patriotic vibe that sweeps throughout the country for it’s birthday month. In the “first world,” you simply walk into the supermarket and pick out what you want from the beautiful display of produce, meat, dairy and baked goods. Here – not so much.Continue reading “Shopping Placencia-Style & A Taco-Eating Contest Fundraiser”
I can not believe that it’s almost the end of August, 2022 already. It seems like we’ve just started and yet, so much has happened in the first half of this year. In April, we packed up our 2 cats and travelled to Gran Canaria where my son is living. So much in such a short space of time.Continue reading “Where Has the Year Gone? And A New Puppy to Love!”
Not much to do in the first half of last week as we had rain and thunderstorms that kept us indoors. One such storm woke me up at about 4 am with loud claps of thunder, flashes of lightning and hard rain, but also, the sounds of lots of not-very-happy birds and something that I’ve never heard before here in Placencia, and that is the honking sound of ducks (or something like that).Continue reading “Storms, Frogs That Sound Like Ducks and Floatchella 2022”
