It’s been unbearably hot here this past week with temperatures soaring to 47 deg. C/116 F if you include the humidity level – yikes! Residents of Placencia said that it’s the hottest October they’ve ever experienced. Ever. Everybody spent the hottest part of the day indoors.

Towards the end of the week, both our air conditioners stopped working including the aircon in our car! We bought two more fans. Fortunately, they fixed/replaced the ones in the house.
Big event here on Saturday – an annular eclipse, the ring of fire over Placencia. We were slightly off the path of maximum greatness, but not noticeably so. And we were ready.

A friend of ours brought glasses for us from the States and we planned a beach day to watch the event.

There were viewing parties all over the village – beaches, bars and docks.

Was it amazing? Not really, but it was a good experience and I loved spending time on the beach with friends – something I haven’t done in a while.

It also cast some cool shadows on some of the buildings.

We had a lovely Sunday lunch at Barefoot Bar – juicy barbecue chicken, stew beans and rice and coleslaw, helped down with an ice cold cocktail. They’ve added some shade to their outdoor section

and there was a cool breeze coming off the sea. The loungers were devoid of people in the baking sun.

Our power went out in the early hours of this morning. Fortunately, the weather broke with rain followed by cooler temperatures. We later learned that the power outage was due to a plane crash near the airport. Two people stole a small plane, clipped a power line whilst trying to take off, and then crashed.
